Intercultural Hong Kong Series: Feeling South Asian 跨文化香港系列:南亞心。情

In 2013, Prof. Siumi Maria Tam launched the Multiculturalism in Action Project, with an aim to raise awareness of the ethnic and cultural diversity in Hong Kong. Focusing on the South Asian communities (Indian, Nepali, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, and Sri Lankan), some of the most socially marginalized groups in the city, and believing in the power of cultural knowledge and hands-on experience, her group tried to enhance ethnic sensibility through partnership, mutual empowerment, and sustainability.

This short film features cultural practices of the South Asian groups and the challenges they face in religion, education, and healthcare. The film points out the importance of intercultural education if Hong Kong is to live up to its name as a metropolis, and shows that it is both learnable and practicable.
